Big Data?
12/09/14
So, "Big Data" is a phrase that kind of sets off red flags for me. It's kind of a woo-y phrase, it seems. A buzz word. Much like disruption. Disruption, however, is an incredibly powerful business term. It became a buzz word for a good reason. "Big Data" being a buzzword is all the more reason I should gain a proper understanding of the phrase, I feel. It's clearly an important concept.
Is the IEEE Big Data area a good place to start?
To connect with my recent interests, I also found a Node Summit video about Big Data. One of the speakers even talked about "Big Data" being a buzz word. I appreciate that.
So, what I got out of that video: big data is a means of scaling data horizontally. Aka, a parallelism for data. I think. It's still really fuzzy. I'm defintely going to check out the IEEE resources on it. And look more into node.js libraries for it.
I got to be careful with this, though. Can't use my explorations here as an excuse to not do real programming. Sessions of AgileGame start again tomorrow.
