Rating: Buy Code Complete, you won't regret it.
I finished reading that book I mentioned earlier today. I started reading it October 2013, if I remember correctly. You could say it took me a while. While reading it, I also read:
- Getting Things Done
- Art of Game Design
- Learn You a Haskell for Great Good
Looking back, I greatly need to improve the amount I read. The original goal was a book a month. Looking more like a book every three months.
To be fair to myself, though, Code Complete is long. It's a good 862 pages. 862 pages that I very much enjoyed, mind you, but still. It's packed with a lot of good content on practical methods of programming, some of which, admittedly, should be common sense. A lot more of it still is something I was told about in college at some point and subsequently forgot.
To be fair to myself, again, a lot of the stuff relearnt through my reading of Code Complete was in regards to standards and habits that are not necessary for work generated during normal college processes.
Anyways, I read it cover-to-cover and enjoyed doing so. I believe rereading it in the future will be quite valuable. I think I'll reread specific chapters as necessary, though. Use it as valuable reference material.
With Code Complete... complete, I believe the next bookly beast I shall conquer will be....
