Costco Trailer Run

09/11/15

So, after yesterday's successful bike trailer test drive, I decided to do a bike ride to Costco and get some bulk items. A mere 1.5 miles from my work, though a considerable 6.1 miles home.

Did you know Costco has bike lockers, Stephan? Well, you do now. Unfortunately, they expect locker locks, not bike locks. At first, it seems like you can use a bike lock too, but some finagling with the door after "locking" it showed that I could twist the lock around to open the door.

I took a risk and left my bike there and went shopping with the bike trailer. I had already discovered at Target that I could neatly fold my trailer and fit it comfortably under the cart. This strategy also works with Costco carts.

I got cheese, milk, oats, and both dish and clothes detergent. There's a surprising amount of weight in those few items. I also realize now that I forgot to buy Tabasco. Crap. Oh well, next time.

In any case, a heavy load taken 6.1 miles is not quite as tiring as one would expect. I just took it slow and didn't try to go super fast. I took it down a busy road, and that was pretty scary. I'll probably want to find a better route home next time I do a Costco run.

I didn't realize how tiring it was until I got home. It was a good bit of exercise and hopefully a good means of saving money in the long run. A promising first run for what may be a habitual thing.
