Favorite Sleep Schedule

05/01/15

You have definitely noticed by now, Stephan, that blog updates are delayed a bit (almost a day later than usual), and also the consistency of publish time is way off now. For example, it's technically May 2nd as I write this, but my rules on what constitutes the date of the post is a bit lax and more-or-less connected to my sleep schedule.

As I noted earlier this week, I was sick. It last some four days, I think. It was not enjoyable, and I ended up sleeping all day a couple times.

And so my sleep schedule is completely out of whack right now. For instance, I woke up about 4 hours ago as of writing this, and decided to shelve the fiction post I was writing to instead discuss my current sleeping schedule.

I woke up at 2300 on May 1st (it is now 0300 on May 2nd). Under any way of looking at it, I did not wake up in the morning. Now, the plan was to wake up at 0100, but my body didn't want to sleep anymore and so I didn't force it.

I love waking up in this time frame. It's amazing. I get all this time to myself. If I wake up and end up not doing anything for the first half of my waking day, I don't feel like I lost the whole day doing nothing. By the halfway point, people are only just waking up, and starting productivity then is perfectly acceptable and normal-looking from any outside perspective.

And if I'm feeling productive? I can get a whole day of productivity in and not feel worn out. Something about the rising sun and the rest of the city starting their day halfway through my day just seems to reset me so perfectly.

Perhaps it's the introvert in me that makes waking up at this time so ideal. Well, the introvert in me and the fact that the lifestyle I have leads to lots of quite enjoyable but incredibly draining social time. Starting the day with no one around, in an unbroken and long calm that I properly control, it lets me charge my batteries in the best possible way.

In any case, being sick has unlocked my favorite sleep schedule.
