Fiction: Time Travel Device
06/16/15
"I have an unfortunate reality to bestow upon you, good sir or madam. All of your mistakes, the big and insignificant, the regret and the forgotten, all of them so far cannot be undone. They are hard reality, set in stone.
"But, I have with me a machine unlike any other. With it and a bit of practice, you may overcome any future mistake with but a few simple, seemingly misspelled words. Now, I must be honest with you, with this magnificient device comes new complexities and the chance of mistakes in an area your brain may not yet comprehend.
"Where now there is a linear line of time, there will live a tree, rooted at your first instruction to this machine. This tree can be made a line again through further instruction to this machine. But such bending of reality could lead to certain... stretches and rips in the fabric of reality. I spaek of ambiguous history. Of paradoxes.
"This, too, can be mended with careful instruction to this machine. Fear not, as well as fixing all mistakes you could make without it, it can fix mistakes you make with it.
"I tell you this because I am aware you about to embark upon a journey. The details of which I know naught. But I do know that without this machine you will be but a puppet with little control over your own destiny. That you will be given challenges that are simply impossible. With it, though, you will truly understand the choices you make, and for the first time ever, perhaps, you will be capable of choosing multiple, contradictory choices and force them into reality.
"And so, I implore you, write the words I have written before you and take control."
You read the words the woman has scribbled down.
