Game: The Beginning (Week One, I Guess)

08/20/14

So, how'd I finally get started on making a game that I've been thinking about for like 8 years (holy crap, 8 years?!?)? Well, actually, I've tried several times, not knowing what I was doing each time (doing a little better each time, at least).

Wow, I actually have a lot of backstory here.... Let's start somewhere interesting.

I was talking to a friend of mine. Should I say his name? I say your name all the time, Stephan, but I don't know, I kinda have your permission and Stephan a common name (actually, I know a few Stephan's, not even counting the Steven's and the Stefen).

I'm really distracted today.

Anyways, I gave my friend a random hello, and at some point I mentioned the idea of working on a game together, and we are. The end.

Well, I guess: the beginning.

We are currently doing doing weekly meetings where we talk about what we did the past week and what we plan to do the following week.

The first week we brainstormed ideas. My first idea was the idea I've thought about for years: a point-and-click platformer inspired by wuxia. Now, even though I've thought about this for a good 8 years, I've never really detailed much beyond that. Lots of abstract fantasizing.

Even with a lack of specifics, my friend liked the idea! So that's what we're first attempting. Yay! There's one specific thing I want to nail: a fight on water. This is inspired by a certain scene in Hero that I found so freaking cool when I first saw it.

So we were off, he'd do some art research and I'd do some programming research. And also dig out my old prototype attempting point-and-click mechanics.

To be continued....
