How Do I Learn House Stuff?

06/05/15

I've owned a house (though the bank owns most of it, I guess) for a little over 2 years now, and I've done very little to maintain or improve it. It's not that I don't want to, it's that I don't know how, and the initial steps for anything always takes me forever to even attempt, let alone internalize.

But I figure it's time to give back to the house that's actually given me quite a lot, even if it was at a cost I'm not sure I'm comfortable with.

So, where do I start?

Let's Google it

Ooh, this article on how to learn house stuff by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity just screams right to me. I get to learn a skill and improve the lives of others by providing a valuable service. That's exactly the kind of system I want to work towards building myself.

So, yeah, I should carve time out of my schedule to volunteer for exactly this. I'll go to my local organization, learn the fundamentals, and then really learn how to do a wide variety of house stuff. The skills and discipline learned there can then be applied to the house(s?) I own.

Deadline to start doing this: August.
