Implementing Deadlines
03/18/15
So, I'm starting to do some amount of work regularly everyday, but the problem is I don't really feel like I'm accomplishing anything, and maybe that's just how I feel, or maybe it's because my pomodoros are of the wandering nature.
I figure attaching some accomplishments I want to accomplish with some deadlines may help me move my productive work in a valuable direction. I already have deadlines for my reviews, and I feel more confident I'll get them done, and that they'll be higher quality because of it.
This should also help me juggle between the many things I want to do, and actually decide on whether or not I'm doing some things. The things I want to do include:
- Run this site on node
- Click-platformer game development
- Raspberry Pi playing
- Taking apart my broken Macbook computers
- Making a micromouse
- Developing and executing a Smash practice routine
Of which I've only really done anything towards site stuff (which has regressed a bit since I destroyed my node scripts), and click-platformer game stuff. If I want to do more, I think it stands to reason to break my goals up into short milestones, make deadlines for those milestones, and switch to different tasks after each completed milestone.
This way, I'll get the power of focus and the diversity of breadth of work. Further, I'll get good practice at setting and achieving deadlines (which may even help me at work).
So, I've already added deadlines to my system a little bit (see my diary for more info), but I have a feeling I'm going ot have to experiment with my execution a bunch before I find a way of implementing deadlines that works for me.
I think this is an important step to actually accomplishing things outside of work. Because I can work on any little thing forever if I don't give myself a time-limit and consider my priorities regularly. I really believe this'll be a valuable addition to my system.
