Is Quality Quantity and Feedback?

05/23/15

Something I've been thinking about lately is the nature of quality material and its relation to quantity. There's a classic cliche that comes with the two words:

Quality over quantity.

Which I used to be a big fan of, but now I'm starting to think that quality is simply some fractional output of quantity, and skilled creators either have a greater ratio of quality to quantity, or are really good at making a lot of quantity and pick and choose the quality therein.

People get better by doing over and over, so to me it makes sense that people have good work by having lots of work. But there are clearly those that do a lot of work and never get better.

Which is where feedback comes into play. You gotta improve on what specifically needs improvement. Deliberate practice and all that stuff, Stephan.

And so, I make a lot of blog posts. Some of them I like, too. But I realize that I don't even devote much time to self-feedback, which means my self-improvement along the blogging trajectory doesn't look too good.

What I'm saying, I think, is that I really should start doing a weekly review in my diary area again.

And now that we're past the year-old mark, maybe I should reread the post from a year ago (whenever applicable). I don't have much catching up to do if I start from the beginning now.

Look for both later today.
