Iterating My System
04/01/15
Oh, yeah, today's the April Fool's post.... Should I do a prank. I'm not really prepared to do a prank. The only things I can think of are possibly mean and probably not funny. Maybe next year. It's something I'll think about.
Anyways, as fro the post I planned: iterating my system. I've decided to devote the week towards my productivity system and trying to address certain things that keep me from working on what I want to work on or what I plan to work on.
One priority is making my weekly review faster to do, while still getting the most out of it. I think a nice step in this direction would be a script that grabs all my blogposts based on some criteria. At first, I'd use the criteria of "since last weekly review", as I want to review all posts since then. But I may also want to start slowly reading my blog from its inception, and so being able to grab ten posts at a time would be useful.
This script would also be a good next step to making it so the main Blog and Diary areas don't just load all posts from their inception, but instead load a bit at a time.
Getting through parts of my weekly review faster means doing more of my weekly review each week. I have yet to transfer my long-term projects, action items, or someday/maybes from my old system. Part of that is that my new system doesn't have a good place for any of that.
That's going to be another priority of this week, making a place for all the things I've noticed needing but didn't make priority to make:
- Actions List
- Long-term Projects
- Someday/Maybe
- Waiting
- Proper guidelines/reminders in place to check these things
Further, I need to make it so that if I can't fit it all in one day, that I should make time for certain pieces throughout the week. This week will be good practice for that, because I didn't finish even the usual stuff last weekly review, for either work or home.
Maintenance may be expensive but my limited experience with it thus far has taught me its worth the investment. It makes my productive time that much more productive and me that much more confident that I'm prioritizing the right things.
I'm hoping a better designed system will be faster to execute, but I'd also be happy if it captured more thinking and kept my brain emptier and better able to focus on what I want to get done.
