Javascript: Point and Click Platformer MVP
02/04/15
So, I was remaking my timer in Crafty for a bit, but I don't like that idea anymore. At some point, I might like to refactor my current timer such that I could use its functionality more easily in Crafty, but for now I think its perfectly valuable to focus on the best means of getting to the next iteration of the timer.
But I do want to work on game stuff in preparation for the eventual UA Game Dev Club Game Jam (the one planned for late last month or early this month has been cancelled, but there will still be one in March). I would also like to start trying to bring a game to each UA Game Dev Club/UA IEEE joint game night.
The first game night is this Friday. I would like to have a prototype toy for my point and click platformer idea by then (aka the Untitled Wuxia Game Project).
The prototype will be as such
- A rectangle representing the player
- Tiny, randomly falling squares
- The ability to jump along an arc dictated by where the player clicks
That's it. No personal requirements for what to use and how other than it being a web-based game. So, maybe I'll use Crafty, maybe I won't.
The idea will be to get the jump mechanics feeling good, and have a dynamic environment such that the player can try to intersect with the falling squares with their jumping.
Nothing more will be done for this. No space optimizations (I'll probably just keep adding new falling squares until the game slows to a stop), no additional platforms (only platform is the ground). No super complicated physics beyond the simple jump mechanics.
I think this is something I can get done in a couple days. Which is good, Stephan, because that's all I have.
Though, I may be willing to work on this idea at the Game Night. Still, two days is all I have.
