Javascript: Timer Iteration
12/16/14
So, I have made a timer that's functional enough that it's what I use instead of the available options I found via Google searches.
And now there's a whole bunch of things I want to do to improve the bit of functionality I have created.
In no particular order:
-
Audio countdown alerts
- Chooseable intervals (5 minutes, 10 seconds, etc.)
- Cross-browser compatibility
-
Insert embedded youtube video that autoplays on timer completion
- User can input youtube video of choice
-
Little animation that shows that timer input is achieved via
keyboard number input
- Could be run during the initial timer setting (5 minutes)
- Working, clickable keyboard to allow setting of timer via mouse input (I wouldn't use this, but others might prefer it)
- Nicer presentation in general (with labels and stuff)
- Timer input taken as "countdown from when last timer finished"
- Timer input taken as "this time, rounded up to next minute"
-
Timer based on time elapsed since timer started
- Currently, timer just decrements via setInterval function
-
Timer input saved server-side (saved even if tab is exited)
- Text, email, or pager alarm when timer finishes
- Login would be required for this sort of thing
Even though I want to do a lot with this simple countdown timer I've made, I really, really like it as it is now, as well. It works for my purposes... at work. At home, on this here chromebook, I don't even see tab-titles because I work in full-screen mode to maximize usable screen real-estate, so the audio cues would be very useful.
But, seriously, I got a lot of use over this simple timer at work. It takes up very little space, and is unintrusive to reset the timer to the time I desire.
Hooray for making my own tools!
