Learning to Like Talking as an Introvert

10/05/15

Or, why I lost my composure during the Game Dev meeting today.

So, usually today I have some notes from the meeting. Not today. I went to the IEEE early today as planned. I worked it out with work to leave early on Mondays and make that up throughout the week.

I went from my relatively secluded office to a room full of people I didn't know. I realized as I got there that I had forgotten my headphones, and thus had no means to block these people out and pretend I was alone for key periods of time between 1400 and 1730.

I ended up getting distracted by and talking with several interesting people, including one person with incredibly horrifying views.

I talked, I argued, I kinda regressed a bit while arguing with the horrible person (maybe more on that in another post, but I'd rather not relive it here).

And then, around the time the Game Dev club meeting started, my brain broke. I couldn't focus, I realized how many people there were, I had some trouble breathing. I completely and utterly ran out of energy. I have built up quite the endurance for being social since high school, but apparently then and there I appeared physically ill.

I recovered reasonably quickly, but I did not have the composure to take notes during the meeting. Luckily, the person next to me took fine notes that I'm sure will be posted elsewhere.

It was an excellent talk by a wonderful person about composing music. It was lots of fun that I didn't get to be in on 100%. But still, good times.

Next week I won't forget my headphones.
