Leaving Mint
05/17/15
So, I don't really care much for Mint, after having tried it out for a while now. It's better than what I was doing, but various aspects of its designs are things I do not enjoy.
I guess I want my budgeting to be a game, but on Mint I just feel I have slightly better tools to track my finances. It also keeps trying to have me use various other tools, which is how they make their money. One of the things it wants me to do is open an account under one of their sponsors to track my savings towards some goal.
I mean, it's a good idea, but I don't feel right being the product of the system I'm using instead of the primary customer. It makes me think they'll avoid making useful systems for me if they can instead sell me to a customer that only kinda works the way I want it to.
Anyways, I think I should keep using it, but go back to making my own tools for this stuff again. If for nothing else, Mint is useful in that all my transactions across various accounts are tracked in that one spot. And I can even save the transactions as a spreadsheet.
Making a script to get that one spreadsheet or even manually getting it will be a lot less annoying than doing it for all my accounts.
