Liking Work Flexibility
06/17/15
So, I've missed work today (sick), and two things are in play for that to not hurt too badly. One, I'm in transtion between projects and so don't have to worry too much about deadlines and stuff, and two, the working schedule I've been attempting has built up extra hours (aka, comp time).
Ever since I first heard about comp time I wanted to take advantage of it, but until very recently I never felt I did enough work to justify working extra hours to get extra vacation (or extra pay at the end of the year). Now, finally, I feel I'm regularly accomplishing it. Yesterday was the first unambiguously bad work-day in over a month, I feel. Until yesterday, productivity had been getting consistently better for like three months.
Today I am sick and I feel like yesterday makes more sense? I don't know, we'll see how tomorrow works (eh? eh? it's funny because I'm talking about work [I'm tired and sick, be nice]), Stephan.
In any case, my current schedule is me planning to work about 12 hours extra per week. However, I let life shenanigans interrupt work without guilt now. If I get into work a bit later than planned or have errands I need to run during work or feel sick or unproductive and feel like leaving early, I let those lost clocked-hours go. I leave at the same time everyday regardless of life's unexpected moments.
My hope this will maximize my work productivity, and result in extra hours I can use towards vacation and/or pay. So far, I think it'll work just fine. Though, we'll have to see how consistent I can be once I get back from my vacation after next week.
