Make the Easy Thing Right
02/13/15
"Don't you mean make the right thing easy?"
"No, that implies there's an easier thing that's wrong. Things should be constructed such that the easy thing is right."
Was a conversation I listened to intently at my first or second time attending the Tucson Functional Programmer's Meetup. It was an incredibly powerful thought for a design principal. Something I agreed with immediately. It's not as though that's an easy thing to accomplish, mind you, but I still believe it is a good mindset for design.
And recently I realized it's a powerful mindset for a user. If I, using some tool, have an idea of what the "right" way to do something is but do not find it to be the easy way to do it, I should start developing the skills and knowledge necessary such that that is the easiest way for me to accomplish my goals.
I've been finding putting programming tips, both language-specific and general ideas, in my spaced-repetition is helping me achieve such an ability.
