New Year's Eve Stuff
12/31/14
So, here it is, my last blog post of the first calendar year of this blog. This blog, my first blog I have ever kept going. So much has happened this year. Not nearly as much as I planned or wanted, but so much more than the usual amount per year.
Review of This Blog, Specifically
By now, for this blog, I really would have liked to have it be more than static html files. I still go through the cycle of writing a post, copy-pasting the content to the main blog page, and then updating my still basic RSS manually with a new entry for the new blog post.
By now, I've come to accept that making that change isn't something I'm exprienced enough to do quickly, and something I don't give enough priority to to make the time necessary to do it. So, the answer is to keep producing stuff I care about until I can trivially mutate my site into something where updates take fewer steps, and stuff.
As far as blog content goes, I've done some thinking about what this blog means to me, and I will continue using it as a public diary. I like what this blog does for me, and if anyone else gets anything out of it, that's icing on the cake. But, I like icing on my cake, Stephan, so I will work towards regularly making content that's for more than just me. I'm thinking I'll work on having periodic blog reviews/rereads, wherein I point out blog posts that are probably worth other people's time, and also highlight blog posts that are close to worthwhile, but need some work. Put them in a "blog better" list or something.
Oh, now's probably a good time to look at stats for my blog.
150
~/site/blog$ wc -w index.html
49886 index.html
So, 150 blogposts and 49886 words in... when did I start again? Ah, yes, May 7th. So, that's 238 days, then. That's a ratio of more than 1 post every other day, which is pretty close to a ratio of a blog post everyday. Like, it's not close-close, but it's about as close as it gets, when rounding days per post or whatever.
Also, my current streak is my best streak yet! Starting November 9th, I have done at least one blog post everyday. Freaking woo!
Work Stuffs
This is probably the best year for work. It's kinda not saying much, though, as I've been performing well under my standards since basically the beginning. The first full-time year, though, was a really addicting problem to solve, so I managed to be really productive. My current task, however, isn't so naturally addicting to me, but I'm approaching addictive levels of productivity.
Really excited for the next year.
Personal Productivity
Far and away, this has been my best year, ever, for doing personal projects I want to work on. These projects served purposes beyond mere entertainment.
I've managed to:
- Make two games during UA Game Dev Club Game Jams
- Make a personal website
- Make a personal blog
- Make a paper-prototype productivity game: AgileGame
- Make a timer to use for the paper-prototype
- Learn a decent amount about javascript
- Read about 9 books (I'll do proper counting later)
- Write about 5 book reviews (I'll do proper counting later)
Wow, when I was first trying to think about what I had managed to do, I felt like it wasn't that impressive, but compared to previous years, it's actually pretty great. Definitely the best year for doing things for fun. I am greatly anticipating the next year.
The Worst and the Best
The worst of this year was pretty close to the best of the last year. Last year was bad for me, though, but still, best of last year was still pretty good.
The best days of this year were the best days of my life. No question. I mean that literally. They were normal days. Days I went to work, but for a long string starting Feburary, everyday was the best day of my life. Things fell together, and I thought it would last forever. It didn't, but who I was afterwards was a significant improvement on my previous self.
Now, I find myself meticulously improving my system again, this time with proper control over my own productivity, and even with a game focusing on executing goals efficiently. I wouldn't be surprised if I achieved maximum productivity again before this coming Feburary.
Next Year's Goals
Coming next year, Stephan.
Happy New Year's Eve.
