Node.js: IRC Talk Notes
11/28/14
Saying hello accomplished. I chatted exactly what I wrote in the post planning it. Some notes for reference purposes.
- "node.js proper is a very small binding to the IO library -- so it's a C++ codebase more than anything."
-
"Want to contribute [in javascript]?"
- "Find node.js projects outside the core to contribute to"
- "[C]reate your own."
- "Publish modules."
- "Use, file bugs on, and fix other[ modules]."
- "There's projects used by many like express[.io(?)] or engine.io"
- "If you can document things, you can be a total hero."
Mostly quoted by user @Aria. Thanks, you're awesome.
The second-last thing I ended up chatting is my general plan going forward, "I'll do some poking around and think a bit. Digging into core C++ also sounds interesting. I'm thinking I'll do the rest of learnyounode and just play from there. Keep contributing in mind while I do that."
The last thing I said, after being welcomed kindly by @Aria: "Yeah! I haven't actually tried talking to people when learning since I did a small contribution to sympy like four years ago.... I learned so much and then didn't keep doing it. I will avoid making the same mistake this time. Thanks again for being so welcoming (I'm always afraid I'm being rude or something)."
I'm going to enjoy being a part of the node.js community, I think.
