Node.js: One learnyounode Exercise Remains

11/29/14

So, over the past four days or so I've gone through 10 of the 11 learnyounode exercises. It's been really refreshing doing what amounts to introductory programming homework problems again. Further, it's been giving me a means to practice some basic Code Complete advice: psuedo-code design and proto-type code and the like.

After this last problem, I think I'll take another stab at implementing my blog in a more dynamic way. This time using node.js instead of Tornado.

My site also really needs a redesign. It's not completely horrible, but it could be much better. For example, I don't think the browse-bar really needs to be on the side, or always present.

I'm going to keep going with the hour per day thing. It's really valuable, and it really keeps me focused on what steps I can reasonably take in an hour. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't always think a step needs to take less than an hour, but right now, at my current level of ability, I think steps that do take an hour or more are steps I can't take. That's some endurance I need to train for.

The Plan

First things first, I'm going to finish learnyounode. Then, I'm going to reimplement my AgileGame: 10 minutes of research, 30-60 minutes of coding with 5 minutes total allotted for extra research.

Things I'll look into researching:

Website stuff brainstorming:

I got a lot of work. Hopefully it'll be a good learning experience. I'll make sure to ask for help when I get stuck, which will probably be a lot. I'll definitely search the node.js mailing list for similar questions before I ask my own.
