Not Enough Data
02/24/15
One thing that's been bothering me is how stubbornly people will stick to certain ideas without pointing to real-world examples or good data to show their stance is true. Now, I myself stubbornly believe in some ideas that have incredibly little data to show for it, but those are ideas I want to try, and when I can finally try them, if ever, I will be able to get data on whether or not those ideas are valid, and iterate from there.
Actually, I guess my beef is with people who nitpick at the problems of existing things without really putting forth better solutions. Nothing is better to them, but nothing isn't actionable on. Nothing means you're letting whatever system exists without explicit intent run rampant.
This shouldn't ever be tolerable. Something costs too much? Work towards a system that better serves its purpose that is more cost effective. Nothing is not a solution. Nothing means its possible no one is willing to take responsibility for whatever purpose something serves, meaning something with real need is being underserved.
I'm being overtly vague. Basically, I want to work towards being some sort of Universal Basic Income activist, I guess, and I want to think a bit more meta about typical tactics against social safety nets.
