QuakeCon 2015 Day 1: Escapedes
07/24/15
I guess I'll be doing my blog post of eachi QuakeCon day the day after it occurred, actually.
Yesterday was a ton of fun. Woke up, ate breakfast, and drove 30 minutes to the Hilton. On the way Rosse and I got some donuts. Got there around 1100. Went to my place in the BYOC area and started hooking up my computer.
I left Rosse to play Dark Souls II for a bit as I wandered around the hotel area. There's a booth area in QuakeCon that I got to explore. There are lots of cool vendors setup, and lots of places where a person can stop a play some random game that's setup. I got a free pretzel at some point and just explored that area.
After that, I headed back to the BYOC. My cousin was still on his way, and so the area next to me was empty. One of my friends was still waiting in line to get in.
Rosse and I decided to go explore for a bit, and then we decided to walk to the nearest Starbucks to get a coffee. It wasn't too far a walk.
There was a line to try out the new DOOM (4) multiplayer. I was uninterested, but my friends went and waited in line.
I ended up playing some Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
I switched to playing Counter Strike with one of my friends.
My cousin alerted me that he had arrived, and I went to help him get all his stuff into the BYOC.
He had some troubles setting up. His graphics card fell out a bit during transit to QuakeCon or something. But it worked itself out after a bit of panic.
Around 1900, I decided it was time to do some car juggling, and in the process get some earplugs, dinner, and booze. So, off me and Rosse went. First to Goody Goody Liquore, then to Walgreens, then to an Italian restaurant called Emily's, and finally to our original lodging that morning to pickup my room-mate.
Hmmm... maybe I should start picking fake names for people. Eh, whatever.
Anyways, it turns out that the air conditioner had broken that day, and so not only would my room-mate drop Rosse and I back off at the hotel, but my room-mate's brother would come along as they went and switched houses.
We grabbed all of our belongings out of the house, packed up the car, decided to go to Krispy Creme, and then drove down to the Hilton. I temporarily stored our stuff in a friend's room and went back to the BYOC to play Super Smash Bros. Melee for the rest of the day.
Then, Rosse and I moved our stuff to our cousin's car, and headed over to his hotel room down the street at the Day's Inn.
A fun day. Perhaps today I'll try making note of the key things in order so I can have a more detailed blog post tomorrow.
