QuakeCon's Over: The Trip Home
07/22/14
Do you know what I think of when I think of travelling from Dallas to Tucson? Seeing the ocean.
....
I'm serious.
Did you know that if you pick the cheapest flight tickets from Tucson to Dallas on Southwest, there's a good chance you'll have a layover in LA? I was not really paying attention to trip time when I bought flight fare, if you haven't guessed that already.
Overall, this was a pretty uneventful day. I had already checked my computer out of QuakeCon the night before. The early morning fun was full of taking the five computer and computer-related equipment we had from our 6th-floor room to a friend's Jeep in the parking lot.
Most everyone else in the hotel had similar plans. Now, the sixth floor might sound pretty high up, but did you know there are some 26 floors at the Hilton in Dallas? Did you also know that elevators like to go to the top requested floor before coming down?
A fair chunk of the morning was spent watching full elevators stop on the sixth floor to mock us. "Oh, did you want to bring your equipment down on this elevator?"
I ended up hauling my computer down the stairs. Good exercise, I say.
The rest of the day was spent thinking, eating, sleeping, and/or reading whilst traveling across the country.
And when I got home, I helped a friend move in. All-in-all a pretty enjoyable day, actually.
