Quitting Everything

10/30/15

So, a while ago I threw a bit of a temper-tantrum during a particularly frustrating bit of non-productivity wherein I decided I wanted to quit everything.

I calmed down shortly after that post and continued right on doing the stuff I do for fun that doesn't "really make me any happier than not doing them".

And now here I am, 2.5 months later proposing the same thing. Or rather, realizing how close I am to it anyways. For a couple weeks now, I have been reddit-free. I have also been webcomic-free and all-but-one-blog-free. I quit soda and candy. All with the help of my wonderful girlfriend, Rosse, whom I have to pay hard-earned cash if I partake in any of these free things (soda and candy are free via work).

I allowed videos until today, and today I grew tired of them invading my options and occupying my mind.

This isn't a permanent abstinence from such things. I know I have gained very valuable experiences from webcomics, videos, and blogs. The problem is the lack of moderation, of balance. Too long have I overtly consumed these things and done nothing of value with my "very valuable experiences".

Discipline must be crafted, and if I must err, I should err on the side of overtly lacking consumption, as I often err on the side of too much.

I believe rules need to be made similar to that of my game-making rule.

And speaking of that rule, I'm officially out of gaming hours. I need to earn some more this weekend.

I wonder what game I'll make.
