Quitting is Hard
09/22/14
I made it one day without reddit, webcomics, and blogs....
It's quite frustrating.
To be fair, yesterday was a bad day, and it took most of the day for me to break down and waste precious time on low-value time sinks. Today is going pretty well (excepting a short slipup this morning).
It's still frustrating though. Back in Febuary I thought I had this habit kicked. I thought I had soda consumption under complete control. Side-projects were getting more time. It was bliss. I had even thought at the time that I had finally done it, I had control over my life and wouldn't lose it.
I lost it. I mean, I haven't fallen back to square one by any means, but my standards are higher now so that's basically how I feel. And there's so much I'm not doing now that I was doing and wanted to keep doing....- I'm not drawing or learning to draw
- I'm not working on a game (to any consistency, anyways)
- I'm not properly reworking my organizational infrastructure
- I'm not eating properly
- I'm not running
I'm not running....
Hmmm....
That's kinda where things started coming together: when I started running as a break in the middle of my day. It evolved into gym breaks 3 days of the week and run breaks 2 days of the week. That worked really well at first, but as I got better at the gym, it was less effective as a middle of the day break, and I went from needing less sleep to needing more sleep again.
Then gym and running died off altogether. I had knee pains, breaks in the middle of work weren't working out as well. I have a dog now that I take for long walks in the morning. I stopped.
Things kept going mostly smoothly, though. But maybe it's like my increased metabolism. It isn't going to snap back.
I think it's time to make time for running again. Running proper. Running to the bus stop doesn't count.
