Ramble: the Importance and Impossibility of Truth

07/07/15

I'm going to start off with a ramble, see if there's a point, and then title this afterwards.

Truth is hard.

Like, knowing it is hard, maintaining it is hard, illustrating it is hard.

There are people with vested interests against the truth. They obfuscate. And then there are people who are just wrong, but think they're right. They obfuscate.

And sometimes, the truth is just gone. Or simply impossible to know for certain, which is just as good as it being gone.

And sometimes finding it is just expensive, time and resource-wise. Maybe even destructive.

Thinking about it makes me think of an example. I have this magic coin. If I flip heads, you must duck or you will die. If I flip tails, you must jump or you will die. I flip the coin. I see the result. I am incapable of telling you the result, and have already started a new flip. There is no way for you to know the result, but knowning it is still of vital importance.

I feel like that's the world we live in. Every decision requires the trust of others knowledge and allegiance to the truth, and the decisions add up to being super important, but really how would I know if I am no better serviced by making the decisions baded off the flip of the coin?

Whatever. I'm tired, I'm sick, and I have a headache. Ramble over.
