Random Fiction: Which is the Dream?

05/17/14

"The only one of these dreams I seem to remember is the first one."

"The second, you mean?"

"I always forget that I don't remember the first, even here. Yes, the second. It reminds me of a story, though. Back in the waking world. When I told someone of that dream."

"So, here you are, in the dream dimension, talking to someone about when, in the waking world, you told someone about a dream?"

"Yes."

"And what did you have to say to this someone about me?"

"You weren't really a very integral part of the story."

"Sounds like it wasn't a very good retelling of the dream. Also, very boring."

"Fair enough. What would you like to talk about?"

"Come on, now. I'm only teasing."

"I know, I know. I prefer to take facetiousness seriously."

"I suppose you do. So, what person's willing to listen to your boring story in the WW?"

"You know, it never ocurred to me before that I do not know his name here."

"Well, you're horrible with names. Quick, what's mine?"

"Ha, ha."

"Clearly, you don't know."

"Clearly. Well, anyways, he's the teacher I tried to email at the end the second dream."

"Oh, yes, heh. Did he tell you about receiving email from you in one of his dreams?"

"Of course not, that's ridiculous."

"See? Boring story."

"Fine, then, let's go sword-fight in the dilapidated mansion."

"No, no, no. Finish your story. It can't possibly put me to sleep."

"Well, short story shorter: I told him about how everyone talked about me being here again, though I had no recollection of the first visit, and how surprised I was at the deliciousness of the food. And he told me, 'Dilapidated mansion? Strange people welcoming you for a second time? Delicious food? Sounds like you were in the land of the dead. And you should never accept food there.'"

"..."

"Well? Anything to say about that?"

"Zzzzzzzzzzz...."

"That reminds me. I also talked about how surprising it was that I could feel pain!"

"Ow! Oh, I was having such a wonderful dream within a dream."
