Ruined Chromebook Site Setup

03/15/15

Yesterday, I ruined my chromebook site setup copy. I even managed to destory the .git directory. My find/replace node script got fed instructions in the wrong order, and I fed in a ".." as a directory instead of as a string to replace. It was a pretty stupid move and it's something I'll design smarter next time.

I lost surprisingly little thanks to the fact that I sync with my server most nights. I forgot to sync my diary, but not all files were lost in this mishap, and all inprogress files were unaffected, so unrecoverable blog posts or diary posts are kept to a minimum.

Lesson also learned, keep multiple repositories that I keep updated. This wouldn't have happened if I pushed my local git repo to a bare git area on this chromebook, and then also, when I have Internet connection, push to a bare git repo on my server, and then update my main site from that repo as well.

So, that'll be something I focus on for the next few pomodoros I have for such productive work. Got to make sure I don't lose work unless I choose to delete it, not because of silly accidents.

Awesome! I still have my local diary open on the browser! No blog content lost, just some scripts that I can easily rewrite. Woot!
