Second Try Starting Now
07/01/14
After my first streak ended it was pretty close to vacation. So I went ahead and stopped trying the daily stuff. All of it. I was going to at least do planks.
But I forgot.
Oops. Oh well. Time to start again. For real.
With some new rules:
- Github streak not important
- Five minutes to each of my "everyday" items
- All free productive time in a day goes to just one "everyday" item
- Large chunks of productive time must go to an "everyday" item
- New "everyday" items can only have five minutes for that day
Github streaks were great, at first. But eventually I started doing a lot of bare minimums to get by. Small issues posted on projects I rarely worked on to begin with. I found an exploit and took advantage of it. Chaining from now on needs to be something with rules I have control over. So that any exploit I find will be fixed when it becomes a problem.
My "everyday" items for now:
- Check tickler items
- Planing/timeblocking
- Clear out inbox
- Digitize entries in notebook/journal
- Organize email
- Reading my book of the month
- Drawing (currently parallel with my book of the month)
- Stretching (expection: has to have more than five minutes each day)
- Planking (2 minutes 30 seconds for now)
- Programming
- Game Design
- Super Smash Bros. Melee practice
- Blog post
There may be too many everyday things, I may decided to cut some out and figure out how/if they fit in at all.
Trying to be productive on something without explicitly planning to at least think about it everyday hasn't worked for the last few weeks. Let's try doing things everyday again, but mutating out the things that don't work and mutating things in to see if they do.
