Site: Milestone Brainstorming

03/07/15

So, the time has come where I feel comfortable enough with node to start migrating my site over to it, and then start making changes to make my site more dynamic in nature. The first step I'm taking towards that, however, is making node scripts that modify all my static html pages.

You see that browse bar on the left there, Stephan? I mean, I might move it, so maybe it's somewhere else by now. Playing with my CSS setup is also something I plan on doing. Anyways, that think that links to various me-related things somewhere on this page. I still, after a pretty significant chunk of time owning this site and having that setup, implement that across multiple pages via copy-paste. So, something I'm working on now is a script that changes all instances of the browse bar html to whatever I currently want it to be set up as.

It's crude right now, but I think it'll get better. I want to make sure any links that can be relative are relative and not absolute. Makes running a copy of my site on my chromebook much easier.

Which is something I'm realizing right now is something that still needs work. As the homepage's css is something I link with an absolute address (http://www.ksionda.me/style.css). That's something I'll fix.

Anyways, dynamically generating the html of files server-side such that I can dynamically piece this stuff together could really help DRY out my website. I can just keep chunks of html in actual files, or maybe I can keep it all in a database (though I should think carefully of the ramifications of that, Stephan).

Anyways, a good next milestone is to take my browse-bar modifier and iterate on it and make it better. While working on that I can consider further the direction and magnitude I want to mutate this site.
