Yooka-Laylee Looks Awesome

05/03/15

The creators of Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country have a Kickstarter setup for a game called Yooka-Layle.

As may be obvious from the name alone, it's a spirtual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. Basically, every aspect about the game considered from this standpoint looks pretty well executed. The cameleon-bat combo is considerably different than a bear-bird combo, but allows for a lot of similar mechanics. Also, as they say in their video, there's a lot that can be done with a chameleon/bat combo using explicitly chameleon or bat metaphors. Moreso, I think, than the original bear/bird combo.

I'm saying it's got some additional affordances from this combo.

Overall, it feels like a well-thought-out spirtual successor concept, and they look to have a good prototype already before the kickstarter. The game is already successful, and I've already felt burned on a previous game I kickstarted, so I'll just wait for this game to release.

But I digress, what really inspired this post is my realization that they got the same musical people (behind the same games) working on the music for this game. Some of the sample stuff is great.

Right now, I can't stop listening to "Jungle Challenge (working title)" on repeat. Actually really good for focusing on the bus, I think.
