UA Game Dev Javascript Talk Prep
03/23/15
So, I want to talk about HTML5 Game Devopment.
Why HTML5?
Most everyone interacts with a browser everyday. That browser delivers content through HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Aka, HTML5. I mean, if it's older it might not be compatible with some of the things I'm talking about, but for our purposes newer is definitely good enough to reach a lot of people with a compatible platform.
So, I think it'd be a good language to be good at prototyping in. There are various prototyping languages out there that can be played on a browser one-way-or-another, but this gets right at the source, and HTML5 is reaching that point where it isn't quite so painful to develop in it directly anymore.
So, I'm going to use this thing called JSFiddle. It's kinda like an IDE for HTML5, and I feel like that's better than showing you how I currently develop, which is a setup more tailored to me and does lots of magical things not really relevant to this talk.
I may resort to my magical ways, but that's only because I like typing that way. I'll copy-paste stuff into JSFiddle.
An Minimal Viable Product
Who here doesn't know what a minimal viable product is?
A minimal viable product is a prototype designed to get at the heart of whatever it is you're trying to make, and seeing if there's real value there.
So, here's a thing I made that is almost an MVP:
Let me switch to a JSFiddle's version of this.
