I have once again run into my "Call Think about Babuska, Grandparents, people who're gone".

I have two memories of father's father. Of Babuska's husband. Of my daduska.

One is on arriving at their home. I threw off my shoes and ran up the stairs. His smile greeted me as I reached the living room. He was sitting on the couch. I feel as though he was always wearing a suit.

The other is at Newark. Everyone was wearing suits there. Or dresses. It didn't really occur to me what was going on. There was a line. At the end of the line there he was. Eyes wide open, but vacant. Laying in a cushioned box. In his suit. This may have been my first understanding of death. There was a brief moment of shock and then I started weeping. My dad would later recall that it hit me suddenly.

I remember my babuska speak of his last moments. He had asked for a glass of water and by the time she came back he was awkwardly unconcious in the chair. He died of a stroke.

My dad brought up his dad a few months ago. "My dad died too soon. He would have been so happy to see the men you and your brother have become. I think he saw how his kids turned out and died of heartbreak."

I didn't really know him, but his legacy is certainly a part of my identity.

I have regained Artisan Vegan Cheese from the library a month after having returned it... and right before a trip will take me away for 5 days of my 3 weeks I have the book. Right when I get back, I'll make some rejuvelac.

I have managed to avoid doing work-work the whole weekend. Which I believe was the right thing to do. As I've talked about before... somewhere, it is important to train myself to be good enough at doing things in the allotted time.

I will give an update on my status on slack tomorrow morning, make the appropriate goals and milestones for the week, and get things done.

My back was still hurting so I skipped out on climbing today as decided yesterday. I think it's good that I'll be taking a break from rigorous exercise this week.

Personal pomodoros this week have been amazing. After this pomodoro, I'll be at 40 for the week. That's my minimum work number! This happened, though, because instead of ambiguous goals, I had a game to get good at. But, these things aren't mutually exclusive. Work-work has its share of ambiguity, for sure. But I've made a game of it, regardless. I can do the same for personal work, for sure.

Which, when I get back from SF, Stephan, will be the goal.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but having a programmable keyboard is a game-changer. Macros wherever I want them! Windows has no keyboard shortcut for using the snipping tool, but with this keyboard and a bit of tinkering: Fn + P. It's something I set up while taking that pomodoro picture above. I may consider going even deeper with my automation (which I should've been doing anyway, but inspiration is always nice).

Lots of reading today. Might forget some things:

  • Film Crit Hulk's review of the 5th season of Bojack (he's got 9 episodes out so far)
  • Freethought Blogs | Pharyngula
  • Twitter (the usual suspects)
  • Various politics
