Receipts Thinking

I've been manually digitizing my receipts in a json file since I started my whole bucket budgetting thing. In a separate json file, I update my bucket spending independently of the receipts file.

Ideally, I would scan my receipts and the itemized spending would be read automagically, and the receipts database updated for me. From there, the spending would be sorted into the buckets, with me being notified of any unrecognized spending. So, there'd be a third database of what items show up as on receipts.

Further, I'd want to sanity check logged receipts against credit card and bank statements, to make sure things have logged correctly and that I have accounted for all spending.

So, what I want is:

• Image recognition for receipt reading
• Saved receipts in JSON form
• Calculated bucket spending from receipts and bucket-filling timers
• Sanity-checking
  • Receipt items add up to subtotal
  • All logged spending matches union of all bank and credit-card statements
• Good visualizations of spending via bucket budgeting

I have a long ways to go, but I just got to implement some things at a time.
