Taking Freelancing Seriously
11/01/15
So, now that I've cut out so many time-sinks, I figure I need to fill that time with something. I'm quite content to continue messing with game stuff and I'll be doing some stuff with Ann Twirls (though I should mostly be behind-the-scenes there), but I've been meaning to try out freelancing and see no reason not to fill in some of my time figuring that strange beast out.
As luck would have it, I think it fits quite nicely with Cal Newport's and Scott Young's online (and now closed to new entrants) course, Top Performer.
I mean, it's literally a course about how to be successful in a field of work, and the content so far has been quite adament about the importance of lifestyle and exploring various paths in a given field (with explicit mentions of freelancing here and there). I think taking the freelancing path seriously whilst excuting this course could result in some good groundwork on knowing how to freelance, and really seeing if I enjoy that kind of additional work.
Interestingly enough, some advice in Top Performer led me to finding the blog Code My Own Road, a blog explicitly about freelance coding, if the few posts I've read are any indication (the first one I found was "The Fastest Way for a Programmer to Make Money Online").
In any case, I'm still in the reseach phase as far as freelancing goes. I'll post updates on anything of note I manage to accomplish.
