Been a long time since I've actually made one of these on the weekend. The goal
in the long run is to start my day with this again. Might want to update my
setup, as currently it takes way too long to start up my computer and get to
it.
I'm also doing a personal pomodoro for the first time since... March 3rd
apparently.
Upgrading my computer is not going to be something I do for a while. I will
follow my rule, and thus will need 30k in my computer index fund, else wait the
5 years since I built my recent computer last year. Which, basic arithmitic,
would mean waiting until 2022. If I want to do it next year, then I need to
double my savings so I can halve the wait time.
A lot has happened in the last ten days. Around the time of my 29th birthday
(June 20th), I was mostly feeling pretty good, throat-wise. Still took sick
days until last Friday.
On last Friday, my cousin came to Seattle for a visit. Over the weekend, we:
ate at Sizzle Pie
got some cinnamon buns at Cinnaholic
went to the muesuem of pop culture (MoPop)
rode the monorail
watched Toy Story 4
watched the first 21 episodes of season 3 of Attack on Titan
Not sure how useful it'll be. Right now it's just a lot of talking about how
valuable checklists are, not the best way to use them. I'm already convinced on
checklists. Though maybe I'm missing important context via listening and it'd
be better to read it.
I have acquired a new book from the library:
Blueprint for Revolution.
Have read a chapter so far. It's good.
I'm trying to quit Twitter again. Had a backslide a while back, and although my
ingesting of it hasn't been too bad, it's slowly getting worse and I'd like to
nip it in the bud.
Not going to backlog over two weeks of missing posts.
I'll give a general overview of what happened over the last couple weeks.
So, the first weekend of June my parents visited for a bit, and that Sunday I
got another game of Spirit Island in with some friends (my old roomies).
Monday, the third, I got Invisalign and got a night fligt to SF for a short
visit to the main office.
Tuesday, the fourth, I played more Spirit Island with some SF friends. I end up
playing so late that I can't take public transportation back to my hotel, so I
sleep on my friend's couch. Good times.
Wednesday, the fifth, the Lexicon team goes out for drinks and has some team
bonding.
Thursday, the sixth, I get the last bit of work I'll get in for the next two
weeks before I took a night flight home.
Over the week, I finished
Faster than Normal.
The book had some good advice and some good resources to check out. But it also
just had some terrible, privildge-driven ableism. Some of it was just gross. At
various points, the auther requests advice and feedback, but I don't know if
he's willing to correct himself. Maybe I'll try it.
A summary of the troubling content, though:
1
ADHD is not a disability. You're not disabled, you're awesome.

Trigger warnings are bad and for people who don't want to face reality.
Friday, the seventh, was the day I got my tonsils removed. I went in at 9. Had
my surgery at 11, and was home by 2. That was a week ago and I'm still
recovering and in a fair amount of pain. Still on a mostly liquids diet. But
the wife and I have mastered the art of the vitamix so I still have quite a bit
of options.
I have also been eating a fair amount of ice cream. I'll try to get back to not
eating sugar once my throat allows non-liquid foods.
Anyways, the last week has been lots of TV, a little bit of games, and some
blur from the pain killers. I think my mind has recovered quite a bit.
There's a lot of stuff I'm hoping to start doing once the pain subsides. I'd
like to get back into start of day and end of day routines, side projects,
learning either to draw or to play an instrument. But I'll add one thing at a
time and work hard to control scope.
For now, though, I'm just goint to let myself recover.
Have a new mentee at work! And he's on the Lexicon team with me. Exciting.
Had devbox issues at work all day today, but got it squared away and pushed out
a single, small PR. Tomorrow, let's go full MAX POWER.
Talked to my therapist about various things. She helped me decide on getting
surgery ASAP. So I'm going to come home from SF next week early and get it done
next Friday. Time to have consistently good sleep.
Only past the foreword, but it'll be a good read I think.
I went and saw an ENT today about my mild apnea. I saw this ENT one time
before, and apparently my tonsils have gone from a 2 out of 4 to a 3 out of 4.
They're the probably cause of my apnea. And they maybe sometimes swell to 4 out
of 4. Gots to get them removed. Which is a two week recovery time (aka no
work). I'll do more thinking on this tomorrow.
Spent most of the day being lazy. Felt good after a week of travelling around.
My brother spent the night in Seattle at the Mayflower Hotel. I hung out with
my nephew and niece for about 4 hours. Finally finished a spirit island game.
Drove back to Seattle today. Got some IKEA furniture while we still had car.
Over the week vacation I finished reading
Digital Minimalism.
It was a good read. I'm trying to rethink my relationship with various online
tools again (I have fallen back into twitter).
