Last year, I just had enough energy to say that SF was a blast.

Sun Jun 24 14:53:54 UTC 2018

Last month, I started doing pomodoros again. Though I didn't put them in my timeblock as I do now.

I also finally made it so http://ksionda.me actually redirects to this diary instead of my never updated WIP page.

I've made progress on a lot of the goals stated in that post (pomodoro-tracking, personal Mixpanel project), and still have a lot of work to do on other goals (dogfood projects in Mixpanel I'm still not using).

I may want to actually have a whole day (like recommended in GTD) wherein I clean house. I've gotten most of the important actions from email to trello, but there's 80 reading actions in there.

Mon Jun 25 04:11:37 UTC 2018

Last week, my timer was in a working state, and just needed alarms. It's basically still in that state. I played with some means of implementation, and have decided that it is better to continue on my path and do a post-mortem and update how I implement things in the future (or even clean the timer up if I'm so inclined).

Mon Jun 25 04:12:55 UTC 2018

Yesterday, the wife and I had a bad comic-con experience. Or rather, we had a non-con experience due to poor communication on the con's side. I had considered doing a charge back based on principle, but I won't. Also on principle. I didn't keep the tickets, I gave them away. Probably to someone planning to resell them. I hope they got used. Next time, I'll keep the possibility of a chargeback in my mind to force a refund when I'm not on the erring side.

But, I'm still mostly proud of how I handled the situation. It wasn't perfect, but it was a marked improvement over previous bad experiences, and the wife and I are over it today. Or rather, we haven't mentioned it and I have no residual anger. It is done.

Mon Jun 25 04:16:52 UTC 2018

Okay, so, today. Today was good. No timer remake stuff today, which is too bad, as I'd like to get it to alarm state and move to using it over my old timer. But it's fine.

Something I haven't been mentioning, because I do it in tandem with other things in my timeblock, is that I've been listening to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. There are some parts of it I find problematic (basically I find it a bit ableist), but overall I think it is a useful thing for me to consume at this point in time. I have figured out the how, and it is giving me the what, is how I feel about it. Lots of good vocabulary and perspectives.

I have mentioned this, but before this I relistened to Deep Work, and also got a lot out of it.

Further (and this has been in my time block), I've been reading Training for Climbing, though I returned that to the library today. I read carefully the parts about mental attitude, and then skimmed the workout parts and what I should focus on. Basically, the argument there was, as a beginner, focus on climbing above other exercise (because I'm learning to climb and form over muscle for now), practice what I'm bad at, and I'll come back to the book in a year or so when I'm past the beginner stage.

I'll also do the exercises I want to focus on right now (pull ups and ab exercises) simply because I like getting stronger in those areas.

But also of note is that the mental part of the book had a lot of overlap with Deep Work and the 7 Habits. And even went over the exact same learning curve that The First 20 Hours dove into. It's really interesting to see all these sources cover the same ground from their own angle.

Mon Jun 25 04:24:18 UTC 2018

I'm making smooth progress on a project at work and am trying to remind myself to start using Mixpanel to track our progress there. I'm also regularly talking with customers about pain points relevant to what I'm working on, which is great and really motivates me. Further, I am overflowing with additional ideas which I've been storing in my work trello account.

Mon Jun 25 04:25:47 UTC 2018

Last Friday I basically skinned my hands climbing. Three blisters on my right hand and one on my left. Ouch. I was focusing on a particularly hard (for me) bouldering challenge, and after regularly getting past the beginning and getting a feel for the process, I decided to try really hard to finish it. I got four or so grips away from the end as I dug my hand into a grip. Ouch.

I think it was worth it. I learned a lot from the experience.

Mon Jun 25 04:27:45 UTC 2018

The timer remake has been slow-moving as I played with implementation details. We should be back to regular movement starting tomorrow. Hopefully before Tahoe I'll have switched to using it.

Mon Jun 25 04:28:59 UTC 2018

I've added some questions to my "Review the Day", as I'd like to be better about capturing various things, and sometimes I forget because my mind is focused elsewhere. I also skipped a lot of things because the morning does a good enough job most time and I'd like more time for reviewing these posts.

I may want to consider having a .planning checklist and a .nightly checklist or something.

Something to consider.

Mon Jun 25 04:30:47 UTC 2018

Anyways, I'm in the last minute of my pomodoro. I like how this review came out a lot. Loving the constant iterations on my system based on my observed needs.
