"If work is feeling really hard, start a pomodoro." I'm really out of it right now, but I'm managing to do this planning pomodoro. From here, I'll try to stick to the plan. Meaning I just want to do two weekly review pomodoros and then a bunch of gaming.

Spending for August.

CATEGORIES SPENDING
QUAKECON! $2,160.74
Shared Expense $1,854.62
Just for Fun $1,065.33
Food $642.70
Debt Payments $350.00
Medical $227.64
Transportation $127.82
Tools - Rosse $79.73
Tools - Rory $79.00
Quality of Life Goal $74.87
All Other Categories $17.56
Income vs Expenses Amount
INCOME $8040.80
TOTAL SPENDING $6680.01
NET GAIN $1360.79
SAVINGS RATE 16.9%

So... spent a lot of my income this month. Though, of note I'm not counting 401k contributions (maxing it out) as part of my income, nor am I paying attention to interest on what I already have in my index fund.

Oh, also, I'm just going to go ahead and be open about income and stuff now. $137k is my current salary. Plus get about $4k per year in a lunch stipend (but that will go away if my company ever starts catering lunch in the Seattle office).

My current savings break down thusly:

Accounts Amount
BANK MINUS CREDIT CARDS $36,521.25
VANGUARD IRA (ROLLOVER) $64,248.10
VANGURAD MIXPANEL 401K $11,851.35
RINCON ESOP $42,400.00
BETTERMENT $13,753.39
STUDENT LOAN DEBT -$11,320.51
NET WORTH $157,453.58
Mon Sep 03 00:38:15 UTC 2018

And... I just realized all of my vanguard IRA was in the settlement fund. Aka, where the money is before you've invested it into something. Thus for the past bit of time it's been making basically nothing (it makes some minimum amount of dividends, it seems).

I've just done a transfer of $50k into a target 2055 retirement fund. And next week I'll do something with the rest. I'm still figuring it out.

I've also move $9k from my bank account into a personal account. Another $6k will follow by the end of the month. That'll be my "computer replacement" fund. The hope being I only take money out once it's made enough to pay for a new computer (so a $3000 computer every 5 years or so).

Because buying a computer is never a necessity, I suppose it can be a high risk stock setup.

Hmmmm....

I have no idea what I'm doing.

Mon Sep 03 01:30:08 UTC 2018

I have signed up for a personal capital account. It has free financial tools and then tries to convince you to invest with them. I'll use their tools for help getting started and from there... I'll figure stuff out?

Back to weekly review.

It feels like my dream recalling is improving? Does just asking the question about my dream help me remember my dream? Cursory googling suggests yes, it does. Though I could do better.

I wonder if recalling dreams increases the chances of lucid dreams. I mean, on one hand, it'd have to, as perhaps I'm forgetting my lucid dreams.

I'll keep a notebook downstairs for better dream recollection purposes. I don't use my notebooks anymore lately, anyways, as I haven't been doodling and like writing via computers more. Even my little notebook isn't used for capture, as I've been using Wunderlist on my phone instead.

On August 30th, I mentioned hackathon-esque goals for this weekend. It instead became "clean up various tasks I've built up across the months". Which is also good. I also hope to finally:

  • Update my driver's license
  • Get a new passport
  • Gain my Canadian documentation

Over the course of this month. Tuesday I'll try to get a new driver's license. And then each week start the process for the other things.

Mon Sep 03 03:04:32 UTC 2018

Empty my head:

Well, I've kinda just did that with various action processing through emails, wunderlist, trello, and inbox. I've done a decent amount of things I've been meaning to do this weekend but consistently putting off. And it feels real good.

I still have a large list of things, mind you, but even that large list has been reorganized into edible chunks. Which hopefully means I can keep it at a maintainable level.

I devoted a lot of pomodoros to my weekly review today. It may be wise to do such a thing once a month until things are truly in a maintainable state. Or, rather, until all the things are in my system and there are tools in place for me to process things when it is properly appropriate.

Which is a long ways away, to be sure. I have projects not captured and messy state to organize. Both in the digital world and the physical one. My desk has a huge mess in the corner of things left over from building my computer that needs to be filed or trashed.

Due to all the processing pomodoros I've done this weekend, I've managed to outpace my personal pomodoro-count from last week. That's real good! It's also real good considering I was super exhausted both yesterday and today except for when here at my computer doing pomodoros.

Though some of my energy today may be due to the black tea I had at 1600.

Anyways, a pomodoro just ended and I've done enough pomodoros for one weekly review.
