Dream

Didn't have the good habit this morning, but do vaguely remember my dream.

I was interviewing for a job at YouTube. I had this huge stack of paperwork I had filled out before coming in. For some reason, I had cut the paperwork into slices like one would cut vegetables. I was trying to give them the paperwork but it had become mush. Then it was back to being manageable and I gave it to them. That's all I remember.

Thinking

Had a solid wake-up as far as dream remember practice goes. I didn't remember my dream, mind you, but I laid there and thought, "Do I remember my dream?" And I tried to relax and stay in my sleep fuzziness. I know I dreamt something, but couldn't conjure it to my mind.

This is one of those instances where I believe I made the correct actions but due to the probabilistic nature of remembering the dream (and also that I'm bad at it right now), I didn't succeed. Trying out my Thinking in Bets habits (know when you made the correct action but bad luck caused a bad outcome and vice-versa).

Dream

I remember my dream pretty well this time. It's what I'd classify as one of my "horror-movie" dreams. I wasn't a character in this dream, though I did mostly see things from the main character's perspective. As I don't remember anything about this character (including their gender), I'll just go ahead and refer to them as me.

I was in a dilapidated, humid, three-room cabin with my daughter. Why I was there, I do not know. There was a host, though. This host spoke a language I didn't understand.

Very quickly we discovered the cabin was haunted. A creepy, petite, solid, pale ghost with an entourage of murky, transluscent children. There also seemed to be kittens throughout the cabin. I understood that they, too, were ghosts. They were all solid to the touch. The ghost and her children wanted to add my daughter to the entourage.

I resisted. Though ghosts, some of which transluscent, they were attackable and seemingly killable. Except the main one, which did not seem to feel pain, but didn't react well to the entourage being murdered. I killed all the children to try to save my daughter. Each kill seemed to hurt the main ghost. Including the kittens.

Upon killing the last entourage ghost, the main ghost was still present. I tried to finish her off, but I discovered she had been faking being hurt. The entourage were not her servants or friends, and she had not wanted my daughter, either. The children ghosts were her gatekeepers, containing her to the dilapidated cabin. With them gone she was free. She beat me to death and left my daughter alone. I don't know where the original host went.

That was the end of the dream.

Pretty interesting. I don't remember myself feeling any fear or dread. I wasn't actually the main character in the story. I was observing.

Sleep seems to be in a good place again. Woke up at 0500. Was a bit groggy, but didn't have any resistance to waking up. There was not a strong urge to go back to sleep.

Managede 7 pomodoros yesterday. Meaning 6 pomodoros on side-projects. Which is neat. That's a normal day's worth of focus on a given task.

I'm trying to remember and write down dreams again. I remember dreaming, but do not remember what it was about. It was one of those dreams that feel like a memory, but upon waking up, it's clear that it was a dream.

Feeling good today. Like, normal sleep-schedule good. Even though I most-certainly didn't sleep well last night. Didn't fall asleep until 2230 or so and kitten woke me up several times throughout the night.

In any case, today I want to work on side-projects again. Was using Overwatch to get over passively consuming. And part of me wants to devote time regularly to Overwatch. But side-projects should get higher priority. Want to get that "Paid off for Life" MVP out.

Opslead is kicking my ass this week. Already having trouble with sleep, but got paged in the middle of the night and stuff.

My spaced-repetition habit has taken a serious hit. Trying my best to build a before-bed stretching habit, though. Seems to seriously improve the quality of my sleep.

Been having trouble using my systems this week. But that's mostly opslead shenanigans. The timing of this opslead re: my sleeping issues is poor, though. It means I don't have data on whether or not I'd be waking up at 0500 again now.... If I don't get paged while sleeping tonight, I'll do my best to wake up at 0500.

I want that stable sleep schedule, Stephan.

At the Office

The twitter sickness is back at almost full power. I'm trying to follow the mantra I've made. "The next time I want to go to twitter, do spaced-repetition, write in your log, or read an item from your reading list."

Yes. I believe I can rewire this habit into spaced-repetition. Just need to note the trigger every time and then go to do a few cards in Anki. Politics right now is a common trigger.

Skipping nap today to see if that helps or hurts my sleep schedule. Drank the post-nap coffee as per usual, and I'm really feeling it. But it has this kind of strain to it.

Missed days

Felt ill again over the weekend. Not sure why. Ended up sleeping in and then resting most of the day on Sunday. On Monday, still felt terrible, but wanted to see if I was capable of work. So, I played Overwatch. And did pretty well. So... taking that as confirmation that I can work in this state. And that's what I'm doing today. Don't feel great, but I can't let this state control me if it's going to happen this frequently.

Finally went to sleep before my ideal bedtime last night. Ended up waking up slightly late at 0515 or so. But that's pretty good overall. I went two days on less sleep than ideal, and my self-control yesterday was really low. In comparison, I'm starting off this morning pretty well.

I want to try having a stretching habit at home in the mornings. After my plan and some organization, that's what I'll do.
